Luxury and class for hire

Don’t want to buy a car? You can drive in style in the UAE at a price

Driving a luxury car is far from a pipe dream in this country where everything seems to be served on a silver platter. Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Bentley, Jaguar – you name it, the UAE has it. Here's the best luxury car rental tips.

With car rental companies found at every turn, residents and tourists alike are spoilt for choice. Whether it is sightseeing or a weekend trip decked out in elegance and style, there will always be an interesting fleet of upscale vehicles to choose from. A unit can be rented on a daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly basis, with or without a chauffeur, depending on one’s requirements.

Rent-a-car firms in the country generally demand that the renter be at least 25 years old, possess a driver’s license (international driver’s license for tourists) and have driven for at least a year. One needs to present a credit card to be able to hire a vehicle. A security deposit, which ranges from Dh3,000 to as much as Dh10,000, is mandatory and will be charged from the credit card. The deposit will be given back to the hirer in full in the absence of traffic fines. Rental companies also require the renter to submit copies of his passport/valid ID, driver’s license and residence visa.

Luxury cars come at a price though. Rates vary immensely among hire firms depending on the vehicle model, make, rental duration and whether one opts for a chauffeur. If one wishes to drive the car himself, a BMW at an average daily rate of Dh350 in one company can go as high as Dh1,000 in another. A Porsche Panamera can be hired at Dh1,800/day, discounted to Dh1,500/day if rented for three days. Thinking of splurging once in your life? Rent a Bentley at Dh2,000 daily and drive into the sunset.
